Friday already?

Wow, I didn’t realize it had been a week since my last post.  Time is certainly flying by these days.
UPDATE ON BLUE ROOF:  Well, I was excited last Sunday when my phone rang, and it was the Army Corps of Engineers telling me they were ON THEIR WAY – hoo-rah (oh wait, that is a Marine term isn’t it!), anyway, two very nice gentlemen came over, took one look at my sparsely shingled roof, and immediately started measuring.  They were quick, and sympathetic.  They told me that the workers should be out in the next day or two to make me blue.  Monday came, no roof, Tuesday as I was sitting in my Diversity class, my phone buzzed, and I stepped out to take the call as it was a strange area code and suspected it might be the blue roof committee.  (Yes, a major no-no to have your phone on in class, but the professor said it was ok).  Anyway, indeed it was the blue roofers, telling me they were there, and asking if I could come home,  I told them no, but they have the release and to please go ahead with the job.  After classes Tuesday I excitedly drove home expecting to see a nice blue tarp instead of tattered shingles – guess what – NO BLUE!  I figured something must have happened and they would be back.  As of this morning, still nothing.  I was driving around the neighborhood the other day, and saw that on the next street, a house with my same house number happened to be blue roofed (on the very day mine was supposed to get it).  I am thinking they did the wrong house (theirs needed it as well though, so if that is the case it is not a big deal).  A few minutes ago, I called and spoke to one of the gentlemen that came out on Sunday to assess my roof – this was after futile attempts to call Operation Blue Roof directly and receive nothing but recordings – and he not only remembered me, but assured me that he would look into it for me.  So, hopefully I will have some good news soon.
The rest of my week has been busy, but not exciting at all.  Got a few test results back – got a 78% on my Science test (not great, but better than I thought I did, and I still have a B in the class).  This class isn’t tough, but it is somewhat boring, and the professor teaches way over our heads.  We started out with about 40 students, and are now down to about 25 – the rest have dropped the class.  His tests are all open ended questions too, so there is a lot to study for (6 chapters per test).  In my Diversity class, we had a 7 page take home test last week – not difficult by any means, but very time consuming.  Out of a possible 106% (two extra credit questions worth 3 points each), I got a 104%.  Not sure where I lost the 2 points as I haven’t seen the test, only know the score.  Oh, btw, the Science professor doesn’t let us see our tests either.  We haven’t had a test in Calculus II yet, that is coming this Thursday – can hardly wait (NOT).  The material in Calc II isn’t extremely difficult, but very long and involved.  One problem can take up almost half a page, and if you make a mistake toward the beginning, you are in trouble.  I have been working with a small (but fun) group of people, and that seems to work out well, we bounce our ideas off each other (there are several ways to tackle these problems), until we come up with the right solution.
My son almost had a full week of school they are off today for Veteran’s day – go figure.  I would have thought they would take this day away to help make up for some of the lost days from Katrina, Rita, and Wilma.  I still don’t know how they are going to take care of that, but these kids are really thrown off track.  The teachers and administrators have been really good about not bombarding the students with work to try to make up time, and they have been sending home notices on how to cope with disasters when it comes to your children.  They are working hard to become “normal” again.
Ok, that’s all for now, will try to post more this week than last.  Till then, have a great weekend!
